What to Wear for Your Photoshoot
Style tips for maternity, grads, couples & families that keep things timeless (but still trendy)
Styling your photo session doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Whether you're celebrating a graduation, a new baby on the way, or just capturing your family as they are right now—what you wear plays a big role in how your photos feel. I always say: go for simple, natural colors, pieces that move with you, and outfits that make you feel like yourself—just a little elevated.
Maternity Style: Soft, Strong, and Comfortable
Pregnancy is a whole moment—and your style can reflect both the strength and softness of it. I love maternity sessions with neutral tones like cream, sage green, warm browns, or soft whites.
A dress always photographs beautifully, but pants and a button-down can look just as stunning. Some have brought two outfits—one casual, one more romantic.
You deserve to feel beautiful in both.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Graduates: Show Off Your Style (Without Overdoing It)
Your cap and gown doesn’t have to be your only look. Most grads bring one dressy outfit (think something you’d wear to a nice dinner or celebration) and one casual but polished look—like jeans with a cool top or a laid-back dress. Earthy tones work great here, too, and let you stand out without clashing with backgrounds. Bonus tip: avoid loud logos or super trendy patterns—this is about you, not the outfit.
Newborn Styling: Soft, Neutral, and Cozy
For newborn sessions, less is truly more. I recommend sticking to soft, neutral tones like ivory, beige, taupe, or muted pastels that keep the focus on baby’s delicate features. Simple swaddles, cozy knits, and timeless textures photograph beautifully. If parents or siblings are joining, choose outfits in similar tones for a cohesive, calming look. Avoid loud patterns or bright colors—this is all about keeping things peaceful and pure. Whether we're in-studio or in your home, we’ll keep the styling minimal so your baby’s sweetness can shine through.
Families: Simple Wins Every Time
Stick to soft tones that go well together—greens, creams, beige, browns, or dusty blues. Start with one outfit you love (usually mom’s!) and build everyone else around that. Avoid too many busy patterns or colors that fight for attention. Barefoot in the grass, or bundled on a blanket—let the connection be the focus, not the clothes.
