The Best Locations for Kids Photography (And Why It’s More About the Feeling Than the Setting)
When it comes to photographing kids, I’ve learned that the setting matters—but not nearly as much as the experience. The truth is, kids don’t need elaborate setups or big backdrops to shine. They just need a little space to be themselves.
Our Studio – Where Most of the Magic Happens
Most kids actually do really well in the studio. It’s calm, cozy, and full of natural light, with soft tones and clean backgrounds that let your child’s personality take center stage. Without a lot of distractions, kids often feel safe to settle in, warm up, and just play in their own way.
For milestone sessions especially, the studio is where I love to shoot.
The simple setting keeps the focus on your little one—those tiny teeth, big grins, squishy toes, or whatever new thing they’re doing these days. It’s clean, classic, and never goes out of style.
But of course, if your kiddo needs to move or just isn’t into it that day, we’ll roll with it. I’ve had plenty of little ones start in the studio and end up twirling through the grass at the park next door—and those moments are just as magical.
The Park – A Great Option for Extra Wiggles
That said, not every kid wants to sit still—and that’s perfectly okay. If your little one is more of a mover and shaker, we’ve got a beautiful little park right next to the studio where we can let them run, explore, and take breaks as they need. Sometimes all it takes is a little freedom to reset and get those natural, joy-filled shots.
We can always start in the studio and head outside if it feels right—it’s just steps away, and gives us the best of both worlds.
In-Home – Comfortable and Personal
Some families choose to have their session at home, and I love that too. In-home sessions feel relaxed and personal—kids can show me their favorite toys, curl up with a blanket, or simply be in a space that’s all their own. These photos often feel like little time capsules of what life was really like in this season.
The Best Spot? Wherever They Feel Like Themselves
No matter where we shoot, the goal is the same: to capture your child just as they are right now. Whether they’re snuggled up in the studio, twirling through the park, or bouncing around your living room, it’s those little in-between moments that turn into lasting memories.
If you're not sure where to start, let’s talk. I’ll help you choose a spot that fits your family and your child’s energy, so the session feels fun and stress-free—for everyone.
