CHEYENNE, CLASS OF 2019 | BASTROP, TX SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER

Meet Cheyenne. She is a senior at Bastrop High School. She is a walking miracle. Born at 24 weeks and weighing a whopping 3 pounds 5 ounces, she wasn’t supposed live. When she was 2 pounds, just before her first surgery, she flatlined for 7-12 minutes. In her life she has had 9 eye surgeries from Retinopathy of Prematurity. Doctors told her parents she would be blind by the age of 10 and she would never walk or talk.

Cheyenne decided that was just not going to work for her. Instead she has been competing in Special Olympics since she was 8 years old. She competes in 5 sports: softball, bowling, basketball, cycling and athletics - 50 meter dash/softball throw. She has competed on the state level in softball, bowling and athletics.

Current medal count: 62. Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Ribbon Count: 16.

She was awarded the FIRST Christi Stanley Most Inspirational Athlete Award, Female Athlete of the Year (3 years), and the Hero Award for Sportsmanship and Willingness to Help Others.

Oh, and that Christ Stanley award…presented to her by Tim Shriver (for all you keeping score at home…he’s a Kennedy).

AND…she is a member of the National Honors Society.

These accomplishments are not just a testament to her determination, perseverance and grit, but also that of her family. Cheyenne’s mother, Lana, is absolutely incredible. One of the most self sacrificing individuals I have ever met. Her love for her daughter shines through in all the strides Cheyenne has made.

When graduation day approaches and Cheyenne walks across the stage (which she was never supposed to do), we will celebrate not only her, but her family. We will celebrate the miracle of a brave young woman who has overcome all the odds to flourish.

Congratulations, Cheyenne! You DID IT!
